BANK ON BELLIES

Because Hunger Does Not Go on Vacation

I learned of the great need in Oakville, a community where it would seem that people have everything, especially food.

– Georgia Apostolopoulos (age 11)

After participating in a food drive at her school, Georgia (grade 6) decided she wanted to continue helping those that were in need. When she announced to her mom and dad that she wanted to collect 50,000 food items for Kerr Street Mission they did what most parents would do – and that was gently manage her expectations and get her to pick a more realistic goal.

Today Georgia’s goal no longer looks so outlandish. She has raised thousands of non-perishable food items and over $25,000 to purchase fresh produce.

“Just because you are young doesn’t mean that our voices can’t be heard. You just have to speak up and people’s kindness will help you achieve your goals. My hope is for Bank on Bellies to be seen as a group of kids making a difference in our world.”

THE BANK ON BELLIES VISION

Bank on Bellies strives to raise awareness of poverty in our community highlighting the importance to give what you would feed your family; healthy and nutritious food. Bank on Bellies encourages people to donate throughout the year not just during traditional giving periods because “hunger does not go on vacation”.

Our goal is to raise 50,000 healthy non perishable food items and $50,000 to support the fresh food programs at KSM.

Please consider supporting Bank on Bellies and Kerr Street Mission by participating in a Food Drive or donating money to be used for purchasing healthy and fresh food options.
