For over 20 years Kerr Street Day Camp (KSDC) has been helping Oakville families and inspiring their children to be all that they can be. Each summer KSM works with college and high school staff to create inspiring summer memories that will last a lifetime.

The following positions are being offered as part of the Canada Summer Jobs Program and is currently pending funding. To be eligible, students must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act2; and,
  • be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

Camp Co-ordinator

The Camp Co-ordinator positions provide an important role in the Kerr Street Summer Programs. Camp coordinators will report to the Camp Leader to assist in planning, development, and execution of high quality developmentally appropriate programming for children, youth and families. This position is funded within the Canada Summer Jobs Grant.

Responsibilities of this job include:

  • Create and deliver a fun program to children and youth aged 5-17.
  • Assist in the management and care of the physical facilities and equipment in all program areas.
  • Supervise and evaluate camp counsellors to develop and implement all facets of camp program activities.
  • Responsible for all scheduling of camper’s activities within each age group.
  • Ensure daily activities are well run, staff are engaged with the campers, activity areas are cleaned on a consistent basis, activities are running on time and implementing the agreed upon activities.
  • Actively participate in the delivery of planned program activities
  • Provide feedback, supervision and mentoring to the staff, ensuring a smooth operation.
  • Meet with staff to review programming for the following days/weeks
  • Model appropriate behaviour in all interactions with co-workers, staff and the public.

Administrative Assistant

The Administrative Assistant position will serve an important leadership role within the Kerr Street Mission Summer program. Administrative assistants report to the Camp Manager and focuses on administration, registration, and policy compliance. This position is funded within the Canada Summer Jobs Grant.

Responsibilities of this job include:

  • Responsible for the administrative management of Kerr Street Mission Summer Programs.
  • Responsible for the registration of all Summer Day Camp participants.
  • Accurately record all payment received for registrations and follow-up on outstanding balances.
  • Creating and sending invoices and camp communication
  • Assist the Camp leadership in supervising staff orientation, training, and camp operations. including any transportation of day campers during off site trips.
  • Mitigate risk and make safety recommendations to the Camp Manager.
  • Serve as the Camp Leader in the event of an emergency where the Camp Leadership is unavailable.
  • Submit all paperwork, health records, invoices to the Camp Manager in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the field trip bookings, including organizing transportation and ensuring all camper lists are provided on each trip.
  • Model appropriate behaviour in all interactions with co-workers, staff and the public.

Camp Counsellor

The camp counsellors provide an important role in building relationships with children and youth while delivering high quality programming within a specific age group (ages 4 – 14). Counsellors will report directly to the Camp Leader and work closely with the Camp Coordinators. This position is funded within the Canada Summer Jobs Grant.

Responsibilities of this job include:

  • Provides direct supervision to a group of children every day.
  • Build rapport and manage group behavior to ensure an emotionally and physically safe environment for children and youth.
  • Ensures the delivery of high-quality camp programs while ensuring safety of all participants.
  • Fully and enthusiastically participate in all camp activities, including all programs and special events.
  • Recognizes the uniqueness and interests of all children and youth and assists them to successfully achieve their goals at camp.
  • Models appropriate behavior in all interactions with co-workers, staff, and the public, ensuring behavior always aligns with the core values of KSM.
  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain and deal with sensitive and confidential situations with professionalism.

Special Needs Counsellor

The Special needs counsellor position will serve an important role within the Kerr Street Mission Summer program as an inclusion program support worker. The Special Needs Counsellor will report to the Camp Manager and help in the safe interaction, healthy environment and nurture a good camp experience for children and youth with uniqueness and in challenging situations. They will assist in the inclusion and supervision of campers with special needs in a variety of programming activities. They will work creativity and cooperatively to modify and adjust programming and activities to ensure inclusive participation of all children. They will provide group and/or one to one support for campers who need assistance in intergrading into camp activities. This position is funded within the Canada Summer Jobs Grant.

Responsibilities of this job include:

  • Provide inclusion support to participants with special needs ensuring that activities are safe, fun, inclusive and appropriate.
  • Work with parents/guardians and other staff to develop appropriate behaviour modification plans as required.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians and staff in providing regular feedback about camper’s daily experiences.
  • Act as an inclusion resource to all camp staff.
  • Take leadership in redirection of camper behaviours.
  • Model appropriate behaviour in all interactions with co-workers, staff and the public.
