2025 Job Application
Our new Sports Camp will give kids and youth the chance to build confidence, develop life skills, and stay active through a variety of sports. Each day, campers will engage in multiple sports like soccer, basketball, volleyball, football, and other team-based activities. The day will culminate in fun, friendly competitions, helping campers learn teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship.
KSM seeks individuals that demonstrate the following characteristics:

The following positions are being offered as part of the Canada Summer Jobs Program and is currently pending funding. To be eligible, students must:
- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act2; and,
- be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

The following are position highlights and include (but are not limited to) a summary of positions. All staff work together as a team to support one another to achieve overall camp and program goals, and also to:
- Promote and build awareness of Kerr Street Mission and its programs.
- Ensure the highest quality program for our community: set outcomes, maintain compliance and quality.
- Actively participate in developing, evaluating, and monitoring programs.
- Maintain the confidentiality of all our clients, and their information.
- Operate within the culture, philosophy and values of Kerr Street Mission.
The wage range for our summer positions will be between $17.20 – $18.45 per hour.

Sports Camp Leader
Key responsibilities include:
- Implement and lead sports activities, games, and skill-building exercises according to the pre-established program plan.
- Ensure a safe and supportive environment for all participants, addressing behavioral concerns when necessary.
- Work collaboratively with camp staff and volunteers to deliver engaging activities and maintain a positive atmosphere.
- Monitor campers’ well-being, enforce safety protocols, and provide basic first aid when required.
- Act as a point of contact for parents and guardians during drop-off and pick-up times, providing daily updates if needed.
- Meet with staff on an ongoing basis to review programming and schedules.
- Model appropriate behaviour in all interactions with co-workers, staff, clients and the public.
- Assist in setting up equipment, maintaining an organized play area, and ensuring all spaces are cleaned up after activities.
Qualifications:
- 18 years of age or older
- Passion for working with children and youth in a sports setting.
- Passion for sports, athletic activities and team games.
- Previous experience in a day camps, coaching, or recreational environment
- Strong teamwork, communication, and leadership abilities.
- Valid First Aid & CPR certification is an asset.
- A clear Vulnerable Sector Check will be required.
Must be available to work June 30 – July 4, July 14 – July 18 and July 28 – August 1
We will also require applicants to attend one 8 hour camp training day and up to 16 hours of sports coaching and program training.
Sports Camp Counsellor
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide direct supervision to a group of children everyday of camp.
- Engage campers in sports, games, and skill-building exercises based on the camp’s program plan.
- Foster positive relationships with campers by encouraging participation, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
- Fully and enthusiastically participate in all camp activities.
- Support campers in resolving conflicts and maintaining respectful interactions.
- Ensure all activities follow safety guidelines and report any incidents to the leadership team.
- Work collaboratively with fellow counsellors, volunteers, and camp leaders.
- Recognize the uniqueness and interests of all children and youth and assists them to successfully achieve their goals at camp.
- Model appropriate behaviour in all interactions with co-workers, staff, clients and the public.
- Assist in organizing and maintaining equipment and activity areas.
Qualifications:
- 15 years of age or older
- Passion for working with children and youth in a sports setting.
- Passion for sports, athletic activities and team games.
- Previous experience in a day camps, coaching, or recreational environment.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and leadership abilities.
