PRE-NATAL NUTRITION
Supporting Moms in Our Community
The early child health consequences of poverty and pregnancy are multiple, and often set a newborn child on a life-long course of disparities in health outcomes. Included are greatly increased risks for preterm birth, intrauterine growth restriction, and neonatal or infant death.
– John Larson, Pediatrics and Child Health
There are many young moms in our community that face challenging life circumstances. Kerr Street Mission believes that we can make a lifelong difference in the lives of parents and their children if we connect early and provide education and support.
Through a partnership with the Halton Region KSM provides a free weekly program through pregnancy and until their baby is 6 months old.
Young expectant moms are invited to come weekly to enjoy a healthy meal and to learn what they need to do to have a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby. Public Health Nurses and a registered dietician prepare weekly sessions to educate and prepare the moms for their new babies.
The moms are also supported with prenatal vitamins, access to the Kerr Street Market and are given a Fresh Food Box each month.
The Pre-Natal Nutrition Program runs each Wednesday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
For moms with Children over 6 months old there is a follow up program called Kids ‘N Me. Parents are encouraged to continue in the Kids ‘N Me so that they can continue to learn and benefit from the support and community.
The Kids ‘N Me program runs each Thursday from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
