On Friday May 7th the doors of the Dream Centre opened to welcome supporters of the Ministry to tour the building and see the completion and fulfillment of their commitment to the community of Oakville and the reality of a dream come true.   The ribbon cutting ceremony saw all three local supporting politicians: Rob Burton, Mayor of Oakville, Gary Carr, Region of Halton Chair, and Kevin Flynn MPP along with KSM Executive Director Benjamin Ward and Board Chairperson Bruce Clark welcome a new era in the life of Kerr Street Ministries.   The terrace of the new building was dedicated to the Town of Oakville in honour of the partcipation of Mayor Rob Burton's effort to see change in the community he leads.  The terrace will house planters which will grow biodynamic organic produce that will be distributed in the food bank.

On Saturday May 8th clients entered for the first time to shop in the Market Food Bank and enjoy hot breakfast prepared in the Longo's Kitchen and served in the new dining room.  "As we watched over 150 people who lined up outside the doors stream in, the smiles and excitement on the faces of people was both a humbling and joyous moment.  For many this is the first time something brand new has been built just for them." said a visibly emotional J. Faulkner Stewart, longtime board member and visionary of the project who was on hand to host the first of many meals to be served.

There are many people to thank for the completion of the building on schedule and Tim Hortons Corporation, The Town of Oakville and Vicano Construction are at the top of the list.   "This project has been professionally run from the outset and the participation of talented individuals such as: The VP of Special Projects for Tim Hortons, Garry Fraser and his team provide a level of oversight second to none" - Benjamin Ward.

Sign up today for your company, service club or Church to cook a meal in our Longo's Kitchen, where you and 30 of your friends can make a difference in our community by cooking a meal onsite for those in need.

The KSM Dream Centre represents hope and opportunity for many of Oakville's most vulnerable residents.  The new building features an expanded food bank and meal drop-in centre, complete with a state-of-the-art kitchen; a full-sized gymnasium; enhanced children and youth program areas, including music studios; a chapel; and a computer lab.  The combined efforts of individuals, foundations, schools, clubs, churches and local businesses in Oakville are making this dream a reality!
