WELCOME TO KERR STREET MINISTRIES
Kerr Street Ministries (KSM) helps and gives hope to Oakville's most vulnerable citizens. Serving over 5,000 people, KSM provides holistic support and care particularly for children and youth and low income families.

MISSION STATEMENT
Following in the example of Jesus Christ, KSM is called to transform lives by serving people in Oakville living in economic, social and spiritual poverty. As a charitable Christian organization we acknowledge that every person is created in the image of God and has inherent value and dignity. We are committed to providing relief for the present and hope for the future.

CORE VALUES
We provide a safe place to those in need and intend to reflect Christ's love through integrity, transparency, responsiveness and compassion in all that we do.

Volunteer

Get Involved and use your skills to make a difference!

Kerr Street Ministries' volunteers are part of a dedicated group of individuals whose contributions provide invaluable help to the organization.  Simply put, our volunteers help transform the lives of Oakville residents in need.  We depend on approximately 400 volunteers to support family, youth and children's programs, pick up food donations, and cook /serve meals.

We welcome all individuals to help, including high school students looking to complete their community hours.   Volunteers under the age of 18 do not require a police check.

Current Volunteer Opportunities

Family Programs: Store Entry Volunteer

We require a compassionate volunteer who understands how to set boundaries to assist in the orderly running of our food bank entry.  Entry to the food bank works using a numbers system and the volunteer is responsible for handing out the numbers to our guests and helping to monitor the flow of people in the food bank.  Orientation and training will be provided.

Hours: Saturday 8:45am-11:00am

Family Programs: Store Monitor

We require compassionate, kind people to help oversee our clients as they make selections in the food bank.  These people assist clients in choosing food, understanding how our food bank functions and explaining what foods the individual clients are eligible to receive.  Orientation and training will be provided.

Hours:  Tuesday 9:30am - 12:30pm; Thursday 2:00pm - 5:30pm; Saturday 8:45am - 11:00am

Family Programs: Voucher Volunteer

We require compassionate, kind people to work in our food bank intake offices.  These volunteers meet with new and existing clients to assess their needs and determine what amount of food they are eligible to receive.  They need to be aware if the clients have needs that can be met by other services offered at Kerr Street Ministries and how to direct them.  Orientation and training will be provided.

Hours:  Saturday 8:45 am-11 am

Family Programs: Listening Volunteer

We require people who are good listeners, compassionate, patient and open-minded.  These volunteers play one of the most crucial roles in our food bank and social drop-in by listening and conversing with our clients.

Hours:  Tuesday 9:30am - 12:30pm; Thursday 2:00pm - 5:30pm; Saturday 8:45am - 11:00am

Family Programs: Greeting Volunteer

We require friendly, compassionate people to welcome our clients to our food bank and drop-in centre.  The role of the greeter is to welcome, orient and make our clients feel welcome.  Orientation and training will be provided.

Hours:  Tuesday 9:30am - 12:30pm; Thursday 2:00pm - 5:30pm; Saturday 8:45am - 11:00am

Family Programs:  Children's Volunteer

We require friendly, compassionate people who have a heart for children to organize activities in our children's book nook during our drop-ins.  The role of the children's volunteer is to watch the children of our clients as they shop and socialize.  Orientation and training will be provided.

Hours:  Tuesday 9:30am - 12:30pm; Thursday 2:00pm - 5:30pm; Saturday 8:45am - 11:00am

Christmas Wonders

We require a variety of volunteers to assist with our Christmas Wonders program. Although Christmas comes but once a year, this is an all year task to organize and deliver.  This is a perfect way to keep the Christmas spirit alive all year round.

Children's Program: Kerr Street After School Programs (KSAP)

KSAP@Oakwood is hosted for 30 children every day of the week from 2:45 PM until 6:00 PM. Volunteers are needed to be positive role models to the children. Opportunities are available for volunteers to program games and special events.

Youth Program

Volunteers are needed to spend a few hours once per month with a group of our youth. The ideal volunteer will have similar interests to the youth and will be willing to educate on a variety of topics.
